fines for middle lane hogging

It may be a good idea now a days to install a onboard video camera, so that your journey is recorded and you could use the evidence to defend yourself against a corrupt officer who doesn't like your face and wants to issue you a FPN.

I've been doing that for years. I recommend it.

I was once pulled over by a copper for 'undertaking'. I wasn't. In fact, he pulled in from the middle lane right in front of me without looking, or signalling for that matter.

When he noticed my camera he sent me on my way, advising me to be 'more careful' in future. No apology, though.

I sometimes wish he hadn't seen it and prosecuted me. I'd have enjoyed my day in court. I had a clear recording of him pulling in without looking or signalling.

gets on my wick when people sit in the middle lane, when the left lane is clear, im doing what im supposed to and end up undertaking people..

i dont think there is a problem with sitting in the middle lane when you are consistently passing those in the left lane. its when its clear and they still cba to move over. ******s

So from July this year, most of us will start suffering from pain in the neck as we look up in the mirror, taking our attention away from the road ahead, and then twist our neck to the right to see around the blind spot, before pulling out to overtake a slower vehicle in the lane 1 and then still possibly miss another driver who is changing from lane 3 to lane 2 and there you go bang!

I think the new law lacks any thoughts on safety, I hate middle lane hoggers just as much as any good driver does, but that doesn't mean those driving responsibly in middle lane are now breaking the law by staying in the middle lane when it is not hurting anyone, or slowing any one down, or holding up following traffic. regardless of lane 1 being empty or not, primarily during the daylight hours but....

However, at night, things can be the other way around, at night traffic is usually milder, so one can stay in lane1 for a lot longer before needing to pull out to overtake, most trucks these days don't drive any less than 70mph, but there is a definite advantage over safety at night as one does not have to overtake a middle lane hogger virtually blindly as lane 3 is far more dangerous at night for overtaking due to oncoming traffic headlights., and in particularly when it is raining as well.

I drive at an indicated 83mph (78mph on my gps) and set my cruise control to this speed. Why? Firstly because I wont get a ticket at this speed but most importantly for the point you mention. I am far safer driving when my concentration is on the traffic ahead instead of continually watching my mirrror. travelling at this speed means I have far fewer vehicles who wish to pass me and if I see someone come up from behind I just pull in and let them past. I dont have any pompous idea that I am doing 70mph therefore I will not let you past because I am obeying the law. Thats stupid driving. my driving is all about watching the hazards ahead and letting faster traffic past. ironically now because of the recession 83mph is actually about as fast as anyone goes as drivers of powerful cars now drive slower to save fuel whereas my little 1.2 still gets 40mpg plus at this speed.

The sooner they put averaging speed cameras on the motorway the better. Set to give a ticket at 70mph. Then all the traffic will travel at the same speed and no-one will overtake anyone.

Just for the front of the car? Is it a kit you can buy just for the car? I have seen them on a cycle helmet

The M62 between Leeds and Huddersfield has accidents on a daily basis..why?

Because its currently restricted to 50mph with average speed cameras.
What does this do , creates a huge wall of traffic condensed accross all three lanes and makes changing lanes extremely difficult and unsights drivers.

70mph average speed cameras would have exactly the same effect. Huge blocks of traffic all moving together with no space between them.

Why drive 100 miles with another car 3ft to your left when by the wonder of different people driving different speeds you can find your own free space distance from other vehicles and stay safer?

You are a fool who thinks that speed alone kills and is the root of all accidents. The truth is **** poor driving can be done at 70mph. Your logic would see all cars doing 5mph with wraparound cotton wool once you realised that everyone travelling 70mph thanks to average speed cameras strangely caused more crashes. Oh 70mph must be too fast yu would say.....

You probably also think the the horn is for greeting your friends and flashing your lights is a safe way to wave someone on.

It is, isn't it?

And hazard lights are for parking on double yellow lines, aren't they?

Sorry, but this thread is becoming a bit repetitive.

Joe, you're absolutely correct. Please continue to drive in the middle lane at 70mph, even if the inside lane is clear. I'm sure you're right that you're not breaking the law and that you will not be pulled over.

I couldn't care less who overtakes me - that's what the idiot lane is for.

As long as I get from A to B on the legal speed limit I don't give a fook what the rest of you do.

Joe, you must be a pedestrian..... Even with an enforced limit of 70 there will still be overtaking.... Trucks are restricted to 56, some have been restricted by their own companies to 52. Then there are coaches and cars towing trailers.... Dont forget the senile old fool and the guy who drives on the motorway once a year when they are driving their families away on holiday travelling at 50....

Many is the time that I have been driving home late at night and have had to move out from the first lane to the third lane to go round the moron in the middle lane travelling at 65..

Yes you do thats exactly why this issue irks you. you have been pushed aside and can no longer occupy your morally pathetic middle lane crusade post. You could not resist calling the outside lane the idiot lane because so pent up and twisted is your anger you cant let it go.

Man up.
by the way you didn't answer my previous questions..
have you ever had a speeding ticket and have you ever been on collision with another vehicle.
and your answer? (he won't)

Are you on drugs? The left lane gets full of trucks so no car can use it.

I've had a ticket in the past but unlike you - I learned my lesson.

And yes some idiot went through a red light and ran into me once.

I just want to join the convoy in the middle lane and listen to the radio.

Gedditt yet? (I doubt it).

The left hand lane can get busy at some times of the day but that doesn't mean that cars cant use it... If you simply want to drive, litent to the radio and switch your brain off then sit behind a truck at 56. There are however times of the day where there are few trucks and the left hand lane is clear for you to cruise along at whichever speed takes your fancy
