No. I personally know many people that bought their houses from the council in Newham which as you know is a typical Labour stronghold. Some even converted to Toryism once they became property holders.

that was the success of the the Thatcher years -if you lower taxes, give away cheap homes -people vote for you. Sadly its not sustainable, now we have a country that has flogged all its assets by privatising, squandered North sea gas, flogged of its council houses cheap and stopped LAs building new ones. Now we have a situation where property market if driven by investors and so we have small houses that are very expensive.

Well, I used to work with a woman who's dad was an active Labour Party die-hard and they hated Thatcher but when I reminded her that both she and her parents were able to become homeowners only because she and her parents bought their houses at a massive discount from the council under the right to buy scheme introduced by Maggie Thatcher, she would go strangely quiet.
