Not just kids, adults kill too. Yet to see a knife attack anyone.
And yet, if the child had found an unattended electric drill, instead of a gun, he wouldn't have killed his sister.
If an angry drunk or a street thug had reached into his pocket, and found a Walkman instead of a knife, he wouldn't have killed someone.
So the ready availability of weapons is a factor facilitating murder.

I dare say any of the implements you describe could be USED to kill someone, a common or garden HB pencil could be USED to kill someone. The item, left to its own devices would not kill.
a gun is intended to make it quick and easy to kill someone.
you'd find it very much harder to kill someone with an HB pencil.
One of the reasons why HB pencils seldom figure in murders, despite their ready availability.

Harder, yes, but still possible. A gun on the other hand, wont go out of its way to kill you, it needs input from someone, & that someone would be the killer, intentionally or not.

It would take long time to grind the graphite down to powder and persuade someone to ingest it.
Or maybe we could use the wood in a pencil to start a fire so they 'self' combust.
Or perhaps we could beat them over the head with it.
Im not sure where in the report where children are blamed for the deaths rather than guns.
It seems to blame the fact that the gun wasnt lock up.

So who is to blame? The kid, the gun or the gun owner for being reckless in leaving the gun accessible ?
Sky news boyo. How many children have accidently shot and killed another person in the UK lately? How does that compare to gun totin' USofA?
