Has anyone any sympathy?

I have done so. Nominal records include dead people, the FOI is ambiguous about it they have been removed or not.

And you ignore all the evidence I have provided so that's not a very meaningful threat. You still haven't acknowledged that you keep using the 44 million number wrongly.
Feel free to go back to the original point you were trying to argue. You’ve argued a number is 1:4 instead of 1:3 based estimates and sources that you don’t understand. Not because you can’t do the maths but because the source is not sufficiently clear.

The point I made is around 3-5% of the population are sentenced at some point in their life and if that doubles, the problem is the law and punishment, not the population.

It’s like trying to use a data lake to solve operational reporting needs. You can’t trust the data, beyond what you know about it.

And that's still wrong, taking your source and ignoring the quality issues then the rate is

12.5 / 69 = .18

18% using the unlocked FOI data.

And again that's people with cautious, convictions and arrested then released without charge.

That is more understandable
Imagine you are doing some armed robbery and the sentence for killing someone while robbing them is death.

You get in to a struggle and shoot someone.

Now you are going to kill everyone blocking your escape. Every witness, police officer etc as you can only be executed once.

It would depend on what crime you get the death penalty for. Who is going to come quietly if they know the sentence is death, who is going to leave possible witnesses etc.
Ironically the hang 'em flog 'em mob often put in the caveat 'if it's 100% certain'...

They haven't thought through the added actions of an already desperate person, and the lethal consequences to the victims should we revert to an archaic retribution system.

I fail to see how having a death penalty could increase the number of murders, it doesnt make any sense at all, that suggests that those who are not murdering people may be swayed to do it because they fancy the death penalty. Ridiculous, it would surely make people think stuff that you get killed if you murder somone, it isnt an attraction.

If you know you'll face the chair or noose.....

.... leave no witnesses (y)

Homicide rates increased in states with the three strikes law mandating long prison sentences.

Do you think it’s possible that Unlocked knew the question they asked, the scope of the answer and are capable of basic maths?

I think it’s likely

But the argument of bumping off someone who is very guilty and never likely to be released is very logical.

Until you look at Lucy Letby.

I’m more in favour of outsourcing prisons of those in that category. to a low cost region to achieve the same goal.

Do you think it’s possible that Unlocked knew the question they asked, the scope of the answer and are capable of basic maths?

I think it’s likely
It's possible but since you haven't quoted unlocked, just the FOI, I haven't looked through their workings. Just yours, which are clearly wrong.

I have seen unlocked quote 1/3 people with PNC entries but that was for men only as women are under represented in comparison.

And since you aren't capable of basic maths* your judgement is worthless.

*
12.6 / 42.95 = (not 1:4)
(All PNC entries for all ages)/(Working age people only) = (Meaningless statistic)

You're doing this on purpose now.

I'm not doing anything you should object to "on purpose". If I'm "guilty" of anything it's not paying enough attention to what you and motorbiking were arguing over wrt comparable figures, so I'll hold my hands up, say "my bad" and sorry.

Now I'm putting you on ignore for a few days for blatantly trolling me.

When you end that ignore, hopefully you'll see that I wasn't trolling you, I was correcting motorbiking who seemed to be criticising your 1 in 4 figure as being too high by using figures which gave an even higher number.

Fraud and all that caper
