High Rise Fire

Within 6 minutes of getting the call. Fire could have been well-set by the time of the call.

The fire Authority are careful in stating that two Fire Engines arrived within the regulation six minutes so the Fire brigade is cleared

It is the back up fire engines that are needed in a large fire, which are not covered by regulations.
Cut backs to London Fire Stations, Stations closed down, less crews manning the Fire Engines, some Fire Stations closed at night, mean longer distances have to be covered by back up engines,

calling on Kent, Surrey Middlesex Brigades which also are suffering from severe cut backs and have their own mobilising problems.Which adds to a knock on affect
First additional request was for 100 firefighters which in the past would have meant 20 Fire Engines, but because of cut backs with crew members it required 25 Fire Engines
How must those first two crews felt knowing that any back up was going to be a long time in coming, and a rapidly spreading fire , a feeling of total helplessness

Is it?

Do you mean you decide not to provide them with safety devices, without asking them?
where did you get that highly classified information from? Only President Trump has access to this information. I smell Russian hackers now. May be Wikileaks

I am dreading to think what would happen in a major cataclysmic event , we won't have phones, all communications would be dead, no internet, no power, no water, no gas, roads unusable due to cracks, earth still trembling after shocks, all political leaders tucking themselves in deep underground shelters, we will be left to our own devices, so start planning now your own survival, depend on no one.

the major Utilities companies use PMR for this reason.

In a major event, mobile phones are likely to stop working or at the least be overloaded.

Landlines are much more resilient.

When Theresa crawls out of her bunker, she will be the first fresh food you've seen in weeks. Armed guards are ineffective in controlling starving crowds who will soon be dead anyway.

If you live in London, then you are screwed.. fortunately I live in the country where we can feed ourselves.... All for one and stuff you lot..

Two days before the fire in that tower, my stupid tenants keep removing or disconnecting the 9V pp3 battery from a smoke detector in a lobby next to the kitchen, because it goes off when they are cooking, many a times they don't bother switching on extractor fan, so i took this smoke detector off the ceiling and brought it home to modify it such that instead of removing batteries from it, they will be given a push button switch mounted on a wall near the cooker, so that if the smoke detector goes off, they can press this silence button and it will silence the buzzer but still remain active and after 5 minutes the silence feature will re-arm, so that the smoke detector is ready for any smoke alarm again, and again if it goes off whilst cooking they can press that button for another 5 minutes of silence, this will ensure that smoke detector batteries are never removed permanently, and cause me to get into trouble with the authorities, as by law |I am now required to have smoke alarms and fire doors in a 3 bedroom property as part of selective licensing , and yes it is a stealth tax, because mine is £850 for the next 5 years! Nearly every tenant I have had removes batteries from detectors, so now I am moving towards mains powered ones. But i am sure they (the tenants) will find other methods to defeat them like covering it up in duct tape! (Tenants really are irresponsible)

take that man who said his fridge had exploded! why did he not try to tackle the fire himself? why did he choose to pack his bags and on his way out he alerted his neighbour, so that shows tenants are selfish, brainless bunch of thugs!

I have one tenant, who fills up a bath with hot water, at my expense because rent includes all bills including Council tax, he is behind in paying me rent by 4 months, he still has to pay me rent for March, April, May and now June, so he fills up the bath every day, to almost where the bath overflow outlet is, then he closes the bathroom door completely and leaves the bathroom for water to cool down a bit, switches off the bathroom light as well, such that extractor fan stops, then half an hour later after he goes out to garden for a beer and a smoke, he jumps in the tub, in the mean time the whole bathroom is drenching with steam and condensation, and I am helplessly watching my bathroom and my privileges being abused, if it were not for the law I would have kicked his ****ing arse and got rid of scum tenant, only 4 months ago I had my bathroom retiled, and repainted, the ceiling has already started form the black mould, and the mould has even started to grow on the ceiling light switch, I have served him a section 21 notice that has expired and I will now need to spend £355.00 to file an eviction case against him that may take another 2 months, so this is what i have to put up with scums, and this particular scum I let him live in this house for absolutely free for two years rent free except he pays for bills, even that he kept falling behind with.

Just a couple of suggestions,

Hard wired alarms are available,

and a fan with built in humidistat might help although better than that a single room heat recovery fan

MFL, I would suggest that if there was a fire in your rented property and it was found you'd modified the smoke alarm, your feet wouldn't touch the ground.

:cautious::whistle::oops::) worry not, I need to get mains linked ones any way, as alarm going off in kitchen cannot be heard anywhere near bedroom, hence i need to cover all angles even though the recommendation was for just one heat detector in the kitchen and a fire door.

Does this deal on ebay sounds good, I need 3 smoke and 1 heat

But Dave, how do i resolve the issue of smoke alarm detector going off in the lobby next to kitchen, or may be I omit it there altogether, the idea was if the heat detector in the kitchen responds only after a fire breaks out, at least the smoke detector would pick up smoke well before a fire breaks out, so this detector is about 4 meters away from the cooker, and cooker has a extractor hood that is vented to outside.

My smoke alarm in the hall was always going off when I was "burning" my dinner . Then I smashed the oven door and got a new oven. Never happened since..... You can buy smoke alarms that you push on the cover and it deactivates the alarm for 10 mins or so.

Any sane person should stop and think this is just morally repugnant - the cuts to the services. Listening to radio Police chiefs were mentioning how the cuts are affecting mental health. The officers have to deal with greater workload and now see so many more incidents that it starts to wear them down leading to mental health problems. I would say it would apply to firefighters as well.

The cuts are disgusting, irresponsible and shameful and I salute all those who work in the police, NHS, firefighters etc who have to deal with this. We are a better country than this.
