Wouldn't you need to comply with Part P though when wiring the wireless stat to the FCU?

How could a RGI comply with that?

RF stats don't get connected to FCU.
They are usually wired directly to the boiler.

If you can find a sparky that understands control wiring then they have specialised, most wouldent have a clue and are quite happy to leave it to the "plumbers", you a sparky vicrub ?

Spark and RGI most people hear are anti sparks i take it, you shouldnt be theres no reason for it.

But it is illeagle to do your own electrical work now and has been since 1 January 2005, its called Part P.

Ive always brought a spark in to do the wiring but im seriously considering getting part P considering so many sparks seem to struggle with basic heating controls.

I dont think it would be a bad thing to bring this into our specialist subjects and elimernate the need for sparks so much .

If theres a fault with a heating system 9 times out of 10 its a sparky issue.

You should do mate, if you PM me ill give you a link, i just get the P*** took out of me here, but I have sat enough of these courses to know I'm right.

Yes old plumbers think its unfair and I do agree most plumber have a good understanding of Y plan and s plan system, but the law requires so much more than basic knowledge of these system and asks them so do electrical tests, fill in MWEIC forms, equipotential bonding to name a few these days.

Things have changed and the law is the law, same as it for us RGI's too!!

1) Read again, i doubt you read it all. Competance = a testing qualification, I douby you have one.

2) Inform building control and they will send a spark out that you will have to pay.

3) Get certification from a professional body, ie NICEIC which you are not.

When cowboys start getting arrested and prosecuted for doing "sick bird" gas work then I'll stop wiring my own heating installs. Fair deal ? Also if part p is required to wire a boiler, this would involve wiring a switched live to boiler. Therefore u would have to remove boiler case to connect it Therefore all part p'ers should be gas registered as removing case is classified as working on a gas appliance. ???

If you honestly think RGI installers can do their own electrical work, just ring building control tommorow and let them know your thoughts
