Ideal W2000 boiler fault

I have a W2000 which was fitted about 22 years ago and has generally been very reliable.

We haven't used the boiler through the summer as it has been warm enough and our Honeywell 3 port valve needs replacing as you have to run the valve in manual to get the rads to heat up. The system worked okay in manual mode until we switched it on for the first time since spring.

Basically, when the boiler is cold, you can get the pilot light on by following the correct sequence and one switched on, the boiler will fire up and work normally for about 20 mins. After this time, the pilot light goes out between fires and can't be relit. Each time you take your finger off the green button, the pilot goes out which suggestes that there is a fault comewhere.

Any ideas/advice would be very welcome

Thanks for the response and I'm guessing RGI= Registered Gas Installer.

I can confirm that you can only light the pilot when the boiler is cold/cooled down so something is wrong and the safety mechanisms are working.

Getting a heating engineer out in our rural patch is a nightmare and our local guy turns up whenever we are both out at work but never when we are at home!

Much Hadham is where we are! We've been here over 28 years so chances are we might already know each other.

I've just turned the boiler down to low (setting 1) and also lowered the room thermostat and so far, so good. I'm no expert but I'd stab a guess that there is a sensor in the boiler that thinks it is overheating and shuts everything down.

I think we were spoilt when our heating engineer ( a family friend) retired and since then is hard to find someone who isn't always too busy, not to say thats a bad thing!

The hours we both work also make it difficult but we have to make the time to get this problem sorted and as a result of this forum, I have found Micky who I'm sure can sort things out.
