What happens when the boiler is commanded to fire up but the flue gas route is obstructed ? Does the boiler fire up and choke or can it detect the flue route is obstructed and thus not make any attempt to fire up.

It will attempt to fire but due to back pressure the air gas mixture can’t push through Venturi into burner so won’t light.

This is due to boiler not been cleaned properly every year.


Which certain nimrods will blame a specific set of boilers not realising that this can happen to any boiler and the notion of self cleaning heat exchangers is purely there for marketing hype and armchair Google warriors.


Besides we've had to do it since year dot on all boilers and the old ones didn't have fail safes... Mexico, Kingfisher, Spacesaver, Flamingo to name but a few.

Old ones - look at the flame, look at the exchanger you can see. With premix test what's coming out like mot of a car. Trouble is often the flue gas analysis is treated like a service and it isn't and now we're taking 90% of the heat out the potential the tolerances are less and the the servicing should be more but often isn't.
 
Four houses were converted to un-vented DHW and sealed heating with pumps and valves gear external to the boiler.
Four houses were converted to combination boilers.
Fourteen houses retained the vented DHW and vented heating system

For what it is worth

I heard last night that the four combination boilers have been replaced by vented DHW and vented heating systems.

The decision to change and the type of system and manufacturer chosen was based on the experience of the 22 houses and the pros and con of the various systems
