Is the Afghan war winnable?

More casualties reported from Afghanistan. John Reid said we could get out of Afghanistan with out firing a shot, he had obviously never read the history of the region. This must be the 4th or 5th Afghan/British war, if the Yanks haven't learned the lessons of history surely the British should have, that is getting into Afghanistan is easy but getting out again isn't so easy.

We have never achieved much in the past so what are we supposed to achieve now

Ask the russians they spent many years there back in the 80s and all they got were dead soldiers

The honeymoon period seems well and truly over, casualties are rising now the top brass are asking for more troops to be sent we seem to be getting sucked into an endless war.

The Russians hit these people with every thing they had airstrikes, even used torture but in the end they were glad to get out, if the yanks want another Veitnam thats up to them but the British should get out.
