There's a lot less of it in the UK than the US, but that's not to say none or even not enough to worry about.

Standards of humanity were very different then. No one has any need to apologise for what everyone's ancestor's did and accepted as the norm.
yes I kind of agree -apologies arent approriate.
however we need to learn from the past and use that to educate for the future.
And, imho, you don't do that by ragging down every statue, and displaying it in a museum (where it will be forgotten by all except for the mostly middle classes).

these arguments about people getting upset about statues are missing the main point.....
the protests have momentum, it may well go down in history, it might encourage curriculum to be changed to include the origins of slavery.
if the protests were perfectly peaceful and statues were not coming down, nothing whatsoever would change......how does the status quo educate?

Im sure the motivation was purely greed.
I guess he killed a lot of black people and plundered their land..which probably means he isnt too popular amongst black people.
It seems education is the long term solution -for both black and white people.
