By culling NHS England?

J. Hunt approves wholeheartedly.

What do you think?

I would not have a problem with a mixed model for the NHS in principle, my fear is that our weak parliamentary system would allow private healthcare to influence political policy even more than now

Lets be honest, the NHS is heavily privatised anyway in terms of service provision, its just that the funding is routed through govt.

If you drive past any hospital, there are those HGVs parked with mobile scanner units............all private operators

I honestly dont know enough about it

what is NHS England?

Something that hasn't been around that many years and made very little difference to the running of the NHS other that adding several further swathes of management for no increase in efficiency.
I think it may have been started by the Tories.

They are responsible for commissioning service.

e.g. your doctor's practice is a private company, has been that way for years. NHS England are responsible for contracting them. If your GP practice no longer wants to be NHS GPs they are the ones who secure a new contract. It happened to my NHS GP recently. I got a message saying the practice was closing, then a message a week later saying it was all sorted.

Privatised delivery is no different than veolia collecting your bin on behalf of the council.

In an ideal world a lot of the public sector would be commissioning and management of suppliers. If your ethos is to make it all state owned and managed, then you might not need such facilities. If its anything like the rail "nationalisation", its not much more than a few hours work for the lawyers to novate and update the contracts.

OVER the 13 years since it was formed, NHS England has indirectly and tangentially touched so many of our lives. Here are your memories:

Steve Malley, electrical technician, Romford

“Yeah, when I went in for an ingrowing toenail in 2015, I am given to understand NHS England provided a level of managerial oversight over and above those actually working on the procedure. God bless them. They saved my life.”

Jo Kramer, supermarket cashier, Settle

“My mother suffered from kidney failure and for seven years of hospital appointments until her eventual transplant, I never once heard of NHS England. I assume that’s because they were so incredibly efficient in doing whatever it is they do. Heroes one and all.”

Nikki Hollis, nurse, Croydon

“It deals with my pay, my holidays, my requests for time in lieu and my completely *******s staff diversity training. Well, I say they do but mostly it’s outsourced to private providers who do a **** job and you can’t reach on the phone. So I’ll miss it tremendously.”

Jeremy Hunt, retired politician, Pimlico

“As a typical Tory who couldn’t give a gnat’s nuts for the NHS, this being put in place immediately as I became health secretary was an absolute godsend to me. I didn’t have to do a f**king thing for six years. Piece of ****. Easiest job I ever had, apart from those two years as chancellor.”

Julian Cook, quangocrat, Leeds

“My employer for the last nine years but, as we say in this business, the quangs come and the quangs go. I’m sure there’ll be another arms-length government body where I can earn a large salary while adding no discernible value. What’s wrong with two layers of bureaucracy? Keeps you warm.”

Keir Starmer, prime minister, Westminster

“13,000 of them and can they as so much as change a dressing? Eh? Can they perform open-heart surgery? Can they f**k. Can’t even prescribe you a pill, half of the bastards. Bunch of f**king timewasters. What do you mean, I sound like Elon Musk?”

This country has been drowning in pencil pushers / paper shuffling dead beats for decades

About time they were sorted out

If they told you what they actually do you would be none the wiser :giggle: As they have some jumped up job title so as to give the illusion of importance to
There waste of space job or quango they are employed by

We have one in the extended family. His job does seem pretty useful, though. Helping to evaluate which treatments are most effective.

Perhaps we need Musk to ask them to give 5 things they have achieved this week to justify their jobs . Now what a strange idea that would be

I suspect that the 13000 staff that they think they won’t need will appear in droves across England

Let’s see how this pans out with the Government in charge AND obviously this is why their CEO chose to step down a few weeks ago

Why are people not kicking off about this. It is exactly what musk is doing in the US and people on here are all over it and him (Musk )about it. Its funny how after Keiths meeting with Trump he comes back with his own chainsaw !
