Landlords Gas Disconnection

Why is an RGI in a council owned property when there will be a gas service provided by the landlord ?..unless its a tenants own appliance.

Our procedure on any suspected CO events was..off to hospital for Co test..no exceptions, and meter capped until all clear produced in writing from hospital. We'd do all flue checks/combustion/air checks as well of course.

If servicing and we spotted tenants own gas cooker with serious orange flame or other combustion faults..disconnect and warning notice.

Its all about covering your own back. Don't forget, the Hospital might well issue a RIDDOR if they find something amiss, and you need to ensure your end of the stick is squeaky clean if HSE poke their nose in.

I once worked for a co. that forgot to issue a RIDDOR after a CO event, but the hospital didn't forget and CORGI were hopping mad when HSE asked them to comment on a case they had not even been notified about. Much excrement hit the rotating blades, but the co. narrowly avoided being discliplined.

As other have said..."Upgrade" the shakey old dears to electric. Many forget to turn gas taps off.

Perhaps the Landlord should serve notice to quit on this tenant. If as said, it endangers others then you owe some sort of care to the other tenants within the building. The tenant may need the help of social services and letting them know you are about to do this, may sharpen their response in helping this tenant.

No amount of legislation, be it gas/electric or whatever, will prevent someone misusing it for what ever purpose. The Landlord could change it all over to electric only to find the tenant leaving the electric rings on full, oven on and door open and boiling water in a kettle for his bath

Cruel to be kind. Perhaps it is action that may be beneficial to the tenant in the long run.

Good luck serving a NSP/NTQ on someone with 'gas' issues. Judges seem reluctant to make someone homeless due to this. Or shall I say at least that is the case in our area. Toss on top of that the appearance of vulnerability, and you've got a snowball's chance.
