Not true.
Some died from covid : they are an absolute number.
Some died because of actions and decisions made in reaction to the pandemic.
Different actions and decisions, different number of deaths.
It seems both statements are true. Excess deaths due to Covid-19 would be any directly caused by Covid-19 and by knock on effects (avoiding hospitals etc.)

But if different choices had been made then there might have been more direct covid deaths and less indirect deaths, or more of both. Or less of both.

Hmmmm, that is exactly what I said, without Covid 19 non of the excess (over normal ) deaths would have happened.

Again, that's not really accurate.
While a reason (or even a convenient excuse, depending on your political persuasion), excess deaths can and do occur without covid.

Daily Mail hogwash

Nope. Not the daily mail. The mail online.
Dummy.
And the the study was carried out by former bank of england policymaker David Miles, with co-authors Mike Stedman and Adrian Heald.

Wouldn't you expect a year on year increase in deaths in an ageing population? To what extent, if any, that is, I've no idea.

A number which you don't know.

Which number suits your agenda?]

The ONS reports that 51,935 Covid-19 deaths occurred in England and Wales to 7 August 2020, compared with 38,226 reported on GOV.UK.1

Until 12 August, the data for England reported on GOV.UK included everyone who died after testing positive for coronavirus, however long after the test they died, whereas the data for the rest of UK included only deaths within 28 days of testing. Concerns that Covid-19 deaths in England could be over-stated without a cut-off date, as it increased the risk of including people dying from other causes, and the discrepancy with the definition used in the rest of the UK, led the Department of Health and Social Care to ask Public Health England to review its methodology for reporting daily Covid-19 deaths in England. Following the review, the definition used for reporting daily Covid-19 deaths in England was changed on 12 August to bring it into line with the rest of the UK.

The scaremongering scamdemic rolls on.

Rights, rights, and effing rights, thats all we hear these days.
I am in Wetherspoons and i have just been informed that Ruddles best is no longer available, i wil have to make do with John Smith which is technically not an ale.
What about my rights to an Ale of my choosing.
I know exactly what you mean.
Bloody outrageous!

They can, but looking at past variation would give you a decent guess at what that could be. During the summer months I believe the variation is fairly small.

It seems unlikely there's been a mysterious killer that struck during spring and summer that we didn't notice because of Covid, but it's impossible to disprove in the same way we can't disprove that all the Covid-19 deaths weren't all faked as part of an elaborate plot by giant lizards trying to sabotage our 5G rollout.

Top Post.Well Said.Ruins Sparkys latest theory.

We can't disprove that 460,000 lives were saved by the measures taken, but you can think about it and wonder - and lizards are not the only other option.

Hundreds of mourners attended a funeral in Rochdale on Monday in contravention of the "no more than 30" rule; however the police were jolly nice and asked the mourners to disperse. No fines, fixed penalty notices or prosecutions were served.

There were so many mourners in fact that the crowd of them spilt over into the neighbouring car park of Rochdale football club.

Contrast this with the police's handling of the London anti-"lockdown" demonstration. Aren't the police wonderful?

In one instance the police were faced with respectable mourners, who complied with requests to disperse.

In the other they were faced with a vile/furious/vindictive crowd.

The police acted as they should, in each instance.
