In one instance the police were faced with respectable mourners, who complied with requests to disperse.

In the other they were faced with a vile/furious/vindictive crowd.

The police acted as they should, in each instance.

Did the police act as they should have at the BLM riots and the statue pulling-down riots? Or at the 2010 London shoplifting riots?

Broadly, yes. The BLM protests would have gone up in flames if the plod had gone in with batons. Oddly that's what happens when you have protests about police brutality met with additional brutality.

The majority of BLM protests didn't do any damage and weren't violent. The white supremacists were violent and the anti Vaxxers were too, although less so.

The 2010 ones were odd because all the police minibuses were busy.
