unless you have someone who is giving you a gold plated promise of adequate work to suit your requirements I would not recommend it.

Don't wanna rain on your parade mate, but without a client base or inside connections, you don't stand a snowflake's chance in hell.
Wouldn't we all like to have an easy life, getting money for nothing earning 50 quid an hour for filling out a form without any hard work.

thanks. to be honest theres nothing easy about doing gas checks. capping people off because of leaks, at risking situations. people not wanting topay because it was passed last year.thats been my experience doing private work. i even had one joker phoning up 4 months later because she had a gas leak saying i did the check. 4 months is long time !!!! soi dont thnk its easy at all. its a hard old game to be sure

I think you've just answered your own Question!!!

Why the hell would you, if you had trouble with P.J's what the hell will you do working for yourself?

And to be honest Gas Safety Inspections are as Easy as it Gets out there, as long as you have the Balls to do what has to be done ;)

You will struggle to make a decent living from safety checks. There's only a handful of landlords that want a decent service doing and willing to pay for it. The rest just want a ticket signed quickly and cheaply, and they'll shop around. The price can be as little as £30 in some areas. I became self employed myself in this year, and things are going well...however I already had a small base of private clients which I'd built up over the last couple of years whilst working for a company. I also specialise in repairs, which is a much less competitive market, and LPG work now brings me alot of work, as very few independants have it and its much easier competing with companies than some idiotic cheap ar5e indepenant. You need to be prepared to do ANY work to make a living when you first start. Refusing certain appliances etc.. will lose you alot of work. You'll need to take alot of work that others have turned down. Fixing bogs, small plumbing jobs etc.... If your good, smart and you know how to market yourself well without spending a fortune you'll survive.

Put it this way, I bet a pound to a penny there's 50 guys in the queue for your job.

funny you say that. My previous company had a real job trying to find someone to replace me. They had plenty of applicants, however very few had good boiler repair experience so absolutely no use at all! They've been looking for an engineer in Oxford for about a year now! I think it depends on the area. At any one time there's always a handful of jobs available in my area.
The biggest problem people have is when they've only ever done installation work, as most of the jobs are in repair & service, and some of these people are clueless in that respect and will struggle to get employed.

I hear that Micky

we have been looking for a decent breakdown engineer (no jokes at my expense please ;) ) for ages Loads of applicants but ALL ex installers and they are to be found wanting when it comes to breakdowns.

:)

Pay peanuts as they say

A guv that even liked me would be a novelty.
