As title.

I had the discussion the other day and was told a fixed electrical heating appliance such as an electric boiler does not require notification.

I believe it does.

Am I incorrect?

From an electrical standpoint, notification to LABC is required if a new circuit has been installed to power. Often needed for an electric boiler system.

Plumbing has notification requirements for both vented and unvented cylinders. And special competence certificate requirements for unvented.

It depends what you mean by notification.

Is it an unvented system?

With a gas appliance, say a combi boiler change; upon completion the installation is notified to Building Control as being installed to and complying with the prevailing regs by the installer who, being Gas Safe registered is deemed a competent person.

Would an electric boiler require notification?

Gas boilers are notifiable under Part J, which applies to combustion appliances.
Electric boilers are not combustion appliances and are not covered by Part J.

If it's an electric hot water system then that might be notifiable as in Part G.
There may be other associated items which would be notifiable, such as energy efficiency Part L, new electrical circuit part P and so on.

...also I beleive, and although not explicit (as it is with a solar, EV charger, or heat pump install); it would be the installers responsibility to notify the DNO at design stage, if the electric boiler would cause a load greater than the existing infrastructure can handle.

For example, SSEN offer a free "load check"...
