Evening all - as a complete novice the forum has guided me through a fair few fixes. But with me spending increasing amounts of time overseas for work i want to take out a coverplan - such as the British Gas offers.

Are there any such plans to cover an oil fired boiler and central heating system?

Any views on which plans are best?

Possibly a "no-no" on here given the DIY nature, but don't want the Mrs and child stuck with no heating etc if I am out of the country.

What boiler do you have? It is entirely possible that the cheapest option will be your tame plumber and not having any kind of plan at all, if it's a reliable make and serviced annually as it should be. You could end up pumping £100s into a plan that eventually costs you more than any repairs that may need doing.

I think the parts on oil boilers are quite reliable. I fitted new pump, control box and transformer back in 1996 and still functioning today.
I would suggest you find a OFTEC heating engineer to carry out regular service.

Your Oil supplier is the best people to talk too.

They will also do a top up service, whereas they will dump a couple of hundred Ltrs every few months when they're going past the door and the price is right.

If you get oil from Emo.CPL etc... they have a service contract you can sign up to where you pay for the annual service then get a discounted rate on any callouts you need. I know the fella that covers Lancs so you'd be in good hands.

Thanks chaps - will ask my oil supplier if they do a service plan. Any other views welcomed.

How much should a regular service cost for an oil boiler?
