Title says it all really :!: :)

I'm planning on putting an outside light up by our front door, is it part P notifiable? I read it as adding a light to an existing circuit but thought I'd check with you lot as the fountain of all knowledge :)

Also would it be sensible to have it RCD protected? Currently we are TT so it will obviously by default be RCD protected, but one day in the distant future we may get PME'd and get a split load board so for future proofing I want to make sure it goes on the correct circuit (ring or lighting).

That said, I was hoping to put it on a 2 gang switch with my hall light so does that mean it has to go on the lighting circuit for segregation purposes?

Cheers
Phil

yes it is notifiable and yes RCD protection is required.

No it is not notifyable and no RCD protection is not required unless it is on a TT installation as yours is

Actually...

It does not need to be notified if it is fixed to your house wall. (Approved Document P, Table 1, note i.)

If it has accessible exposed conductive parts then it should be protected by an RCD of 30mA or lower.

Cheers Guys
I'll put it on the lighting circuit as I think that that is required for circuit segregation with the two gang switch, unless anyone is going to tell me different.
I think it's plastic so no exposed conductive parts, so if I ever change the board then that should be no problem

Are you sure thats a requirement of BS7671?, afaik the disconnection time drops to 0.4sec in that situation(471-08-03) But I am unaware of any regulation requiring RCD protection, have I missed something?

No RCD protection required.

Notifiable only if cables doesn't enter directly into the rear of the fitting - IIRC.

Gosh, yer can tell Ban All Sheds has gone, He kept this forum from reverting to screfix dementia.
Come on guys, you can do better than this, and often have, make me proud of you, not despairing.
Please, you can be fantastic, you`ve all proved that.
