It's interesting to see the thread has focussed on two trades: plumbers and mechanics. Coincidence?

I’ve 20 years in the motor trade and similar in plumbing now.

Main dealers rip you off at any chance. They used to have a bonus scheme “time” and if you got after it you could double/treble your wages.

Unfortunately that quote went in the bin outside VW before I got to my parked car.
Said that, the opposite must be true: main dealers charge just about for the correct amount of time required to do the job...

I paid for 3 hours labour for my discs and pads to be replaced at a Ford main dealer!

Then they replaced them when they went faulty 6 weeks later, it took them 45minutes, (obviously cheap parts)
