The new light (Homebase Colours Bathroom) looks like it needs L & N only (blue and brown wires). But the old light had two browns. I am not going to remove the rose, hoped to stick the new base over it, but the existing wiring puzzles me.

That is a good point and perhaps it would be better to wire it from a junction box above the ceiling.Seems a little strange that a device supposed to be class 2 has a metal enclosure inside which you have access to the wiring connections. I thought (obviously incorrectly ) that the double square suggested double insulation with no possibility of the user making contact with an electrical source. If you do a botched wiring then the metal enclosure could become live.![]()
