Before anyone sticks out their neck it might be a good idea if you give a bit of information about yourself.

Age, current job, previous jobs, height, weight, aspirations, transport and home location etc.

Some would also say that you should say if you know how to make a good cup of tea or coffee.

Putting your email and telephone number in your profile would also show that you were serious!

To other professionals, I recently had a conversation with insurance companies about trainees and what they said was not encouraging. Ask about it in the CC if interested.

why the heck do you want to do plumbing in a town already very very very over subscribed with plumbers???

I live in Totton and currently average 3 jobs a week!!! that is with over 2,000 existing customers and 25 years in the business.

just to add to the previous I've just been to do a quote for a heating system, there was another guy there doing the same and whilst i was there someone else turned up with a quote. so that is at least 3 of us chasing the job!!

and to round off yet another sh*it week todays Echo has 1 company offering a free boiler service to every reader!!!

Well I am sure you can go one better that and give a free box of chocolates with every free boiler service!

Getting your sticker on every boiler in town much have a value!

Then they may call you first when it faults.

Anyway its better to be out doing some work than sitting at home.

Do you know "Pete the Plumber" in Bournemouth?

He says just parking his van gets him as much work as he can do on some days.

He did make me laugh when I went to see what he had done wrong when installing a new boiler. I could see the fault when I was still three metres away from the front door. I didn't even charge him!

But I did charge him the next day when he could not get it to start! He did not realise that connecting the live to the brown wire was not enough. He even made the owner pay my charge!

yes i know pete and gemma his sickkick he isn't that good yet as you say he gets the work
wish i knew what else to do as everything i do at the moment seems to not work
YP / Yell.com used to get loads of work now F/all
local paper used to get a steady work load now 2 jobs a month if i'm really lucky - now decided to stop ads as costing more than i'm making!
leaflets great results for years now only a few jobs come from all that leg work!
existing customers used to have boiler serviced - now they only want you when it goes wrong!
pricing have tried pricing the few jobs that have come in lower yet still don't get the boiler changes!
what else to do ????

Pete bought a used, but quite newish, van with a really good gimmick that the seller provided all the signwriting.

Possible they repainted the van too because I think its red and thats not the usual new colour for a van.

All I can say is that it looked very smart indeed and I was very impressed by the signwriting.

He says if he is short of work he just parks the van at a residential street junction and the jobs come to him! He said that just doing one boiler replacement can often get him 2 or 3 more just from people seeing his van.
