I advised that a local hardware shop had some clockwork doorbells and some pneumatic doorbells for sale, I had only got mains and or battery ones, He said he wanted a battery one cos he thought they were "not electric" what the heck did he think they were? Oh yes he probably decided they were quad bikes I suppose!

If you want to split hairs, it’s actually a quadricyle. People just shorten it to quad bike, like you have shortened bicycle to bike. Look it up.

A bicycle has 2 wheels by definition.

A bike, merely conveys the description of the transport medium. Nouns, adjectives, basic English.

Quad bike, just means 4 wheeled bike. It doesn't even "mean" it has an engine. It's a description of a type of vehicle

If you don't accept quad means 4 there's no point going further.

If I said I had a quad trike then what would you think I mean?

My maternal Grandmother used to always say Gas Ovens and Gas Lamps, if the were Electric she would not call them Electric Ovens or Electric Lamps she would call the Electric Gas Ovens and Electric Gas Lamps, and hey ho, whippets and Greyhounds were Race Hoss Dogs. LOL. it was funny

Quad = 4 Agreed, Bike - Bicycle (Bi as in 2 , therein lies the problem) Bicycle = 2 wheels, tricycle = 3 wheels, quad = 4 wheels.
