seperate switchin for chandelier bulbs?

thinking about fitting a 3 leg chandelier. would like to switch 1 bulb or 2 on seperate switches. dont want dimmer switch. is this possible and in keeping with proper standards?

Nothing wrong with what you want to do but...

...it is almost certain that you would need to run another cable from the light to the switch and alter the manufactured wiring in the chandelier.

There are remote switches available but it would still entail rewiring the ceiling rose and chandelier.
 
This is standard method in places like Turkey where because of the heat they used discharge bulbs well before we did here. The 1/3 and 2/3 split gives three levels of lighting and most flats are wired that way.
 
If you're lucky (but not always) the three conductors are available at the rose, rather than having to delve further within the fitting.
