Hi all,

I am in the process of replacing the ceiling in my extension and am going to put spot lights in the new plasterboard.

However I have bought the wrong lights! They are mains powered (no transformer) and say in the instructions that you must not cover with insulation.

Is there anything I can do or are there special spot lights I can buy instead. Also would it be acceptable to just leave a small gap in the installation where the spots go?

By the way - the extension is single storey so I really do need insulation!

Any help would be apreciated.

Chris

I think you'll find that ELV lights with a transformer have exactly the same restriction. You either need to leave a gap in the insulation or else get a cover with the apprpriate dimensions and lay insulation over the top.

There are bespoke metal covers available, however I understand that people use ceramic plant-pots as a cheaper alternative.
