The French

I believe that no cash has actually been given to the French? Certainly true about 28 days ago.
The British bang on about funding the French efforts but the French say zero has been given over

France demanded 54 million in addition to normal ongoing costs, that may not have been paid according to the French. We pay for security infrastructure to protect lorries etc from migrants and border control officers at the ports on an ongoing basis, the extra money was for Calais to provide extra policing on beaches, but if the existing police do no more than watch the migrants climb into small boats and head for England, there seems to be little point paying for additional police to do the same.

How much is the UK spending on security at Calais? - Full Fact

The Home Office has published data too
In April 2017, the Home Office responded to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request asking how much it had “spent since 2010 to deter illegal immigration in Calais and the surrounding region.”

The government response says that it spent £316 million from 2010/11 to 2015/16. The sum was £40 million in 2013/14, £49 million in 2014/15, and £112 million in 2015/16.

It’s unclear how much of this spending is counted within the £150 million spent in the last three years, reported by the Press Association.

The Home Office figures cover “day to day activities” including “passport checks on all passengers” and “searching for illicit goods”, which UK border officers carry out on French soil.

The spending also covers “recent investment to reinforce security through infrastructure improvements at Border Force’s controls in Northern France”, as well as “stopping and deterring illegal immigration” through a range of “wider activity”.

The large increase in spending between 2014/15 and 2015/16 is put down to “a combination of increased migrant pressures in Calais, new operational and technological improvements at the juxtaposed controls and improvements to infrastructure in the region.”

The spending is part of a joint commitment between the UK and France to manage the border between the two countries.

from your linked article.
So the last payment was in 2016? And TM was as bad as BJ for not paying?
How does that refute the idea that UK is not honouring its promises?

That's the last time a FOI request was made, the 'Le Touquet agreement' is still in force, UK border control staff are still operating in France and maintaining the infrastructure and staff is still being paid for by UK.

Supposedly, but the French are saying the UK is not paying. In fact there has been a recent article that the French will not continue to provide the additional manpower if UK continue to not pay.
Now which government has proven to be lying about all sorts of other things?

And going back to the earlier question, where do you think money is best spent, on failed attempts to prevent migrants crossing, or on countering climate change? (which the UK has also not honoured its promise)

I suspect it would have been cheaper to provide improved accommodation and processes for migrants, than the failed attempts to deter them.

could not get hold of a taser
At least you tried. Your mate Hate and yourself should have no trouble finding access to piles of schitt though. Brexit has produced an abundance. All you need is Boris's 'waste of money' water cannons and off you both trot to tackle those peaceful protestors.

I suspect they're all pith and wind, i.e. lacking the appropriate 'tackle'.

Where could that be, USA, Australia, UK, Germany, Russia?
Now where could the French be involved? Give us a clue.

well generally were ever there is ***t going on in the world

blimey do u not recall what they did in New Zealand

That was over 35 years ago. The current rot and sleaze in UK government is just this week.
If we need to dig back into history, perhaps we can look at the UK's most recent horrific actions against humanity.

35 years ago that’s not the point
It was a state sanctioned terrorist attack on New Zealand

The Mau Mau murders and torture was state sponsored terrorism on a whole country. At least 11,000 deaths of people struggling for independence against colonialism, by UK soldiers.
Yes exactly.
Then there was the Malayan debacle. Forced relocation of 500,000 Malayans, and 400,000 Chinese in internment camps. Torture of civilians. Unarmed civilians killed.
Yes exactly.
Then there was the Suez crisis.
Yes exactly.

nonsense

There is no comparison

bit like the French caper in Algeria

or the belgys in the Congo

totally different scenario

Rumour had it that it was British security services that tipped off the New Zealander’s as to the culprits ;) of said terrorist attack

There is no comparison, you're right. The French are prepared to recognise their atrocities and offer apologies.
If only the UK could do the same.
French President Emmanuel Macron apologized Monday to Algerians

Call on Boris Johnson to apologise immediately to Libya

Pressure grows on UK to apologise over 1971 Belfast killings

Calls for UK apology after coroner finds Ballymurphy victims ‘entirely innocent’

UK PM Boris Johnson asked to apologise to over-80s after ex-aide's Covid claims

Mayor calls for formal apology for Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
etc, etc.

or the belgys in the Congo
totally different scenario
The thread is about the French, remember, you started it.
