Paris has its problems, like any big city, but calling the whole place a dump is a bit unfair. I'd be more concerned about pickpockets and getting caught up in a protest than anything else. If your daughter is travelling with kids, I'd suggest avoiding any demonstrations, keeping an eye on local updates and being a bit more careful around busy tourist spots. Has she already booked somewhere to stay? The area they're staying in would probably make a difference to how I'd feel about it
