Utility Company wants Plumbing Cert for wet plumbing

Surprised to find out our wet plumbing installed by a non City & Guilds plumber like myself requires a piece of paper before United Utilities connect some water to the new flats we are making?
The gas is all sorted for tests ect but didnt expect this for the water works?
Is there a way around this?

The only cert they normally want is to do with the MDPE water main.

Ask them exactly what they want

agree. good for the water board. theres regs to comply with when a supply to a house is being used. e.g how do they know that you have'nt used lead solder on copper pipes, or the compression, or other fittings used are'nt wras approved. i can use various scenarios. thats why plumbers get trained and go on a wras course. you might have done the job correctly but regs are regs.

I agree that its good to hear that the water supply co want to see documentary proof that the water installations in the flats has been done by a properly qualified person.

Why should some of us bother with the cost and time to get qualifications if they are not required by the water supplier?

Creating a "closed shop" for workers after so long of not needing such documentaion will create only malice!

Actually a one day course and assessment is all that is required to become Water Regs approved.

This will give you the necessary information to select and install 'water fittings' associated with cold water supply to meet the 'Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999'.
