But the debate has to move beyond religious objection and find a sure footing in available scientific data, otherwise folk like Denso will dismiss any claims out of hand. I'm uneasy with the time limit set at 24 weeks, as a heartbeat can be detected long before that and in that case i wonder if it's ethical to legislate for an abortion.

The heart can beat after 4 weeks of gestation. If you go by a heartbeat you would effectively be ruling out abortion.
