Washing machine with reduced power cable

Hi. I was hoping for some basic electrical advice...

I was given a washing machine from a flat clearout. The unit is only 6 months old but for some reason the power cable has been cut down to leave only approx. 12 inches remaining with no plug.

What would I need to do extend it? Can I just fit a new plug on the 12 inch cable and use an extention lead? Any advice would be appreciated.

Be warned, cables cut off short can be a sign that the item is broken.

Yes you could fit a plugtop. Or you could replace the flex, you will need 3 core 1.5 pvc or rubber sheathed.

1.25mm will be adequate and often easier to buy a short length of.
