Most conflicts arise out of difference of one form or another and there is no more defining difference to humans than religion which is why it is the source of many conflicts.

To deny something which has been such a defining factor in the past 100 years or so is remarkable.

the middle east is fought over the State of Israel and the fact that it was plonked in the middle of Palestinian territory. does the West Bank or the Gaza Strip mean anything to you?

Huge numbers of the list of territorial disputes Noseall posted above have their origins in religion even going back in our own country to Catholics & Protestants and the middle ages.

To eliminate conflicts we must eliminate the differences which provoke them and religion will always be at the top of that list.

No time nor inclination to take this any further as I have a golf course to get to and two Christians to play.

I hope for their sake that their God is on their side otherwise they're in for a right trouncing

This is where you are wrong. If you had any understanding of religion and its teachings you would have a much more understanding viewpoint.
Take Africa for example where religion played no role for many centuries and yet the many different tribes fought tooth and nail with each other.
