What did you consider a luxury growing up?

Inside toilet
Soft toilet paper instead of torn newspaper
Bathroom
Heating
Hot running water
A bed all to myself
My own bedroom

I had none of those until we got a new council house when I was 13 years old. Absolute ****ing luxury!

A man after my own heart. We got ours when I was 12. Though I didn't get my own bedroom till I was 17 when my eldest brother, (27), moved out.

We didn't have a pot to p!ss in when I was young.
The following things were luxuries.
Carpets.
A hairdryer.
Telephone.
Colour telly.
Telly with remote control.
Electric blanket.
A bike.
A heater in my room.
Windows that closed tightly.

Viennetta….it was only for birthdays.

rest of time it was tinned peaches and evap.

We were lucky as we had a five bedroom house, plus four rooms on the ground floor and two were used as bedrooms so we all had a bedroom each.
In front of our house were clay tennsi courts belonging to xx xxxx plus we had a bath and hotwater via that thing in the back of the coal fire then dad was the first to get an immersion heater - those were the good bit

mum was a house wife as there were 6 kid inc me.
dad worked 50/60 hours a week to feed and cloth us all and i recall him buying a brand new zephur 6.

the bad bits
outside toilet and yes as big family it was news papers in there and that hard paper unless we had guests
we were one of the last ones in our family group to get a colour tv
from coal we got magic heating instant heating eg a gas fire lol.
i recall the ****pot
i recall collecting/helping with the wood cutting and coal cellar
i recall our chimney catching fire
i recall windows iced up on the inside of the bedrooms in the moring north facing ones.
then thank God my parents house was purchsed under the CPO scheme got next to peanuts
but as my siblings were also working then mum and dad bough a house with double galzing,
inside toliet, toilet and bath so two w/cs, drive, garage and heating in almost every room
but it only had 4 bedrooms and dad converted the garage into a room/bedroom
and hot water turn of the tap.

Have a fondness for evap milk and also sterilised milk and cream.
Also 5 pints.
And SMP.

After 47 years, I've just noticed a theme there.

I like evap

In Holland people put it in coffee.

But they call it coffee milk (Koffiemelk)

Very high in calories.

My wife made a rice pudding last week and added a tin of condensed milk, (conny-onny as we call it in Liverpool), and the taste was amazing!
She didn't realise I liked rice pudding till we were talking about it a short time ag, (only known each other 9 years), so thought she would treat me to her version. Out of this world. :)
