Whst Is he on about

This is a difficult tweet to write and I will understand if you want to unfollow or block me. I deserve it.

I've been a labour voter all my life, and as such I have to confess that the rail strike is all my fault.

I've let Keir take the blame for too long.

I'm sorry.

My take on it is that the writer has come to the conclusion that supporting the Labour party is support for an organisation that allows strikes to be called by a few union leaders.

With the latest anti union laws, it's not just a few union leaders who call the strike.
50%+1 of the members eligible must cast a vote and this vote must be 50%+1 in favour before the workforce can strike.
They received an overwhelming response from the members in favour of strike actions.
What the bosses want to do is rip apart all agreements of the past 70 years and use public transport as a cash cow.
Workers' rights were obtained at great cost for some people (Mcalpine black list anyone?), so it is only right to fight in order to retain these rights.

So if 51.9% of eligible voters wanted something and 48.1% didn’t, you’d agree with it and would have no argument and just get on with it. Is that right?

Yes, that's correct.
Some mugs in ancient times called it "democracy"...

What percentage of eligible voters actually voted.

What percentage of eligible voters were aware that a vote was taking place, ?

I am old enough to recall the mal-practice that some union bosses used to get the result of the vote they wanted.

The Brexit referendum was pretty well publicised Bernard.

I was referring to the "vote"to close down the railways for three days ( effectively 6 days of disruption ).
All RMT members were balloted and over 50% of them casted a vote.
Over 50% of the votes were in favour of strike actions.
Unions don't need to contact the press and/or inform the public when they hold a ballot.
That should be done by the train operating companies.

Someone still has a problem with maths...

51.9% of 'eligible voters' didn't vote for what you wanted...

Only 36% of the electorate (eligible voters) did so

Is that right?
