Working on boilers

Am currently working on a boiler for a friend but not any off the gas parts. Am strictly sticking to the water parts of the boiler, is this still allowed as in close proximity to gas fittings.
 
ok, this boilers combustion chamber has a internal casing and i've not removed that only the main case. I guessing your talking about the main casing..

I only wanted to descale the heat exchanger and i might have to change the diverter valve, I'm guessing this is a no no, then
 
my own personal opinion is you shouldn't touch boilers full stop unless your a RGI, sometimes when I have a boiler cover off I see things, the signs that things are not right. You can certainly work on it if your not touching anything gas related but sometimes it is not so clear cut, take circuit boards, some have setting for ignition and burner pressure which your average Joe wouldn't know about
