Youth unemployment at an all time high.

Is youth unemployment a consequence of immigration?

  • Yes. It's pretty obvious. They are taking all the jobs.

  • No. It would be just the same if the Poles hadn't arrived.

The previous Labour government opened the floodgates that is immigration into this country. Cameron and his party should act now to stop (or at least slow down) the amount of foreigners coming into the country. But of course they won't do anything about it for fear of being called racist/ xenophobic. Labour created this situation in the first instance, but won't blame themselves for their policies where immigration is concerned. They'd rather sit back and complain about the present governments inability to do anything about it.
This country should be doing what our continental neighbours do with people who are not welcome, nor needed in their countries. Send them back from where they came.

Is it not the case though JJ that anyone from Europe is free to come here if they please....I am not sure though if I decided to take myself off to warmer climes with not a penny to my name whether I would be welcomed with open arms....given money, food and housing :?

Surely the poll should have a 3rd option though that says "It is a combination of immigration, lack of willing and a cushy benefits system"...

I work for a large broadcast corporation, they run a modern apprenticeship scheme where each year we take on 200 young people aged 16-18 and train them to NVQ level in admin and other skills.
Over the last 2 years of the 400 started, we have only 140 left. Most either couldn't handle menial, basic tasks, some found that they could do better but for the most part there was a lot of apathy on the young 'uns part.
So while, I believe, that these is a high level caused by immigration we shouldn't be discounting those that get the chance and then refuse it or simply do not have the skills.

I am sure that you are right.....apparently the government is going to do something about immigration.....and also the payment of benefits to work shy youngsters....the problem is I suppose that they will be forced into work and yet give very little back to their employers....as stated in your case.
It is hard to understand the mentality of today's youngsters, that when offered a golden opportunity of a future career they just throw the chance away.

Yes Susie, but it was a Labour government who agreed completely to the freedom of European member countries , citizens to seek work here.
The Roma's in France were free to live in France (by the same rules) but the French decided enough was enough. Could you imagine the uproar from the European Courts if this country decided to do the same???

I am sure John I did hear them saying something on This Week or Question Time or some political programme that they are actually going to start restricting immigration, which can only be a good thing...probably too little too late, but better than nothing.

Does immigration of millions of Poles and the like make any difference? Would there be record levels if we hadn't let all the foreigners in? I doubt it.

About 6 years ago i was working for an employment agency, there was a shortage of truck drivers at the time and i was creaming it in at £20 ph, the bubble burst when the eastern europeans arrived, the agency didn't phone me anymore even though i was able and willing to work, the immigrants were mainly truck drivers and construction workers, no brain surgeons not many nuclier physisist, so yes they did make a difference.

probably because of the poll at the top of the page....its talking about 'if the Poles hadnt come'
