What amount of work and at what skill level did you assess will be involved?

Shall we disciss this in the combustion chamber, Big Burner?

Your expertise and vast experience can be answered there.

The OP needs advice from RGI's and like you, well can dicuss all the pro's and cons and then give the OP the best way to proceed. Surely you are an RGI, because if your not, your comments are 'fragrant' at best.

I look forward to seeing you there.

To update this thread.

I have had 6 plumbers round so far with conflicting views.
most want to fit a worcester, 37cdi has been mentioned, couple of them said a combi was not big enough to supply water for 2 bathrooms.
Some said i should go for a megaflow, Jury is out as which system to go for.

we have good presure coming in for both gas and water 20L per minute or
more.

Would it be wise to invest in a highflow 440cdi or 550cdi , for water demands ?

recently fitted a hiflow 440 he supplying 15 rads, 2 bathrooms, 1 shower room, large kitchen with 2 sinks. customer v. happy with boiler & performance of hot water. only problem has been with condensate trap getting gunged up. only takes 5 minutes to clear but pain in backside

Perhaps you should get a seventh round for another view?

So far each plumber has invested his/her time for a 16% chance of gaining employment from you.

Have you informed them that the odds are 84% likely that they are wasting their time?

i will get 20 round if that what it takes to get a competant person who i can trust to do the job and for a price which is fair.
actually i have found that most of the plumbers are wasting "my time" as some have not even come back with quotes.
i guess doing some real work i.e pulling up floor boards running pipes in is not really how they want to make a living.
i guess doing boiler swaps and charging 2k labour is the norm i guess.? easy money for old rope

Read:

I want a plumber who tells me what I want to hear.
I know nothing about plumbing, but I know when a plumber is good, I can judge that by just talking to him.
I have heard figures as low as 4000, so I am sure that a chap as clever as I am can get it done for 3500.
And I will by my own boiler on-line, fat chance I will let some dumb plumber rip me off.[/b]

:D

thankyou for making assumptions , which all are incorrect.
i think i have enough intelligence to read between the lines thankyou.

plumber that came round yesterday told me i could still use my shower pumps with a combi ?????????????????

The best one was the guy who wanted to run the ch pipes on the out side of the house.
and i must use a mega flow . sure why you got one in the garage that the dodgy bloke down the plumbers merchants gave you for a nifty ?

i just find it hilarious when i get some of these guys round telling me that it could take upto a month to install the heating because of the work involved.

yet only 3 have quoted out of 8 guys that have visited the house. most must be workshy

I think you have just shot yourself in the foot and reloaded.

And has it occurred to you that the 'workshy' would not have wasted their time visiting your charmless household for free?

Would this job be for your mum's house, by any chance?

please explain why 8 visit then only 3 quote ?

and no its not my mums house , what ever the hell that means ?

shall i offer to pay for the plumbers time to visit the property and lay a red carpet and rose petals on the floors for such an occasion.
i can tell you think you are the messiah of plumbing and should be compensated for your trouble how ever much knowledge is passed on to us mere mortals.
