Do you have an example?

Most things they say , and most things they do would clasify as stupid. However, in their defence some of the stupid things they do is due to them following instruction.

Trouble is, they're not really in a position to use their initiative since any deviation from procedure would leave them open to possible wranglings and disciplinaries in the event of any subsequent related problems.

Like all of us, there are rules which we have to follow, no matter how daft they sound - that way the buck stops with the policy makers and not with us.

Personally, I think shooting at 3-tonne cars as they drive past a primary school at home-time is absolute genius, as is the apparent 25-stone minimum weight for any law officer.

I have noticed they only show one clip of a US policeman running himself over each week, so that must be happening less now.

What gets me about the American police, you hear them referring to chasing a suspect, who has failed to stop for whatever reason.
They then perform the PIT maneuver, putting the suspects
and other innocent peoples lives in danger, if this is not attempted murder then it's the next best thing.
They have some lousy police drivers too.

and whats with the codes they use on their radios? "i've got a 10-4" etc???

I see it's Ok to denigrate the police as stupid.

What if this Topic was called Irish stupidity.

Where's dextrous when you need him.............

The police arent a race. Therefore calling them stupid aint racist. :p

#a rather sweeping statement?

how many american cops have you actually met?

my brother inlaw is in the nypd, badge number 9849.

his favorite trick is to spike my drink, he suceeds every time

My example, is my experience!
Got pepper sprayed by some local oik about 18 months ago, i was in the wrong place at the wrong time, the oik threatened me so i stood up to him, he then sprayed me in the face. When he saw that it didn't debilitate me like the 3 other he'd just sprayed (unknown to me at the time) he legged it and i gave chase.
Aaaanyway....6 coppers, 3 of em armed came to the scene. He oik had legged it, along with his knife weilding mates.
And out of all 6 plods, not one of them took any of my clothes for forensics to test for noxious substances......vital evidence in charging the guy as they knew who he was. They actually admitted this gaff to me!
I got my day in court, but i think he just got a curfew and a fine, whereas he should have been done for ABH or GBH. He was also charged with threats to kill (on a woman) which carries a custodial sentence, but the woman backed down, as did another sprayed witness!

But yeah, coppers..........foos!

Professionals use language that is designed to enable easy communication between themselves in clear and concise statements. Since the police are of limited vocabularistic abilities, they have to create their own set of lingo/jargon.

Although, on another line of enquiry, it has been demonstrated that a sizable minority of them are racist, and almost all of them are offensive.
