People's midday eating habits

On working days do you eat lunch in your van?

Mostly/sometimes/rarely/prefer not to...?

Or is it home most days... the pub... Mc Donuts...?

Just curious...

eat a sandwhich as i go, dont stop for lunch

My old gaffer used to do that every day until he keeled over and blacked out. :(

He is only in his forties but that is a warning sign and he now has proper breaks and is careful not to over do it.

Not much earning power when you are dead.

I think there is a lot to be said for stopping for a lunch break. Unwind and have a walk around. It will be better for your muscles, your mind and your digestion.

One break at 10:00 am and one at 1:00pm.

Do not have have in between tea breaks.

Make our own tea and politely decline the customers tea, unless they are prepared to be educated.

Eat prepared sarnies, no chips, no maccie d's, no fried or hot meals.

what's wrong with customers tea?

I make tea that can disolve a spoon, just the way it should be... ;)

I'm ok with it - well, just about, but my oppo has strict guidelines, particularly in the depths of winter.

It has to be your typical 'builders tea'. Hot and strong, but not stewed. Very little milk. ;)

but then i do go home earlier! Ive definetly learnt to pace myself over the years!

that's not pacing yourself, it's racing to get the job done.

concentration wanes as your blood glucose level drops, so at the end of the day you are more likely to make a mistake....

a 10 minute break for food and drink at 10am, and a half hour around 1pm is good for your mind and body..

it also gives you time to reflect on what you've already done in case you already made a boo-boo.. it's a pain to realise at the end of the day that you forgot a wire or a valve because you haven't stopped all day..

no its not racing to get the job done. it takes as long as it takes. im just the sort of person who cant sit down for a length of time. Id rather get on with the job. I just eat as i go. Its what ive always done and im very comfortable with it. Each to their own.

You guys seem pretty disciplined. I tend to take a break when i fancy one and drink tea when someone puts the kettle on.
I did work somewhere where siestas or (power sleeps) were quite popular. They seemed to work quite well.

bloke at the place I used to work went into the first aid room every lunch time and took a power nap... the rest of us just kipped in our chairs next to the jobs...

Definately Crib or Bagging or whatever you want to call it at 10am, best stop of the day ,with pre- prepared wholesome grub, not to worried about lunch- maybe finish of crib leftovers, loads of pre- prepared sugary tea about 3pm and work on till finish of days work schedule.

Bacon roll can of coke for breakfast start at ten dont have a break till we leave job at around half six , couple of pints then eat around 8.
Max couple of cuppas during day but usually drunk cold.
