Hi all, I want to change the condensing boilers because it's about 20 years-old now. I also want to power flush the whole heating system and have 6 new thermostatic radiator valves installed. There will be a new double radiator in the hallway which the size is about 600 x 600. As the old cylinder needs a new pump and valve(?), also with the immersion heater. A Magneclean will be also included. Someone recommended the Boxi Solo 15 HE to me. Is this a good boiler? How much will cost me for the installation? Thanks for any suggestions.

it all depends on the condition of your system and it's compatibillity with Part L1 Bldg Regs, but I would thing £3,000 - £3,500 should cover it

Baxi HE = Average Boiler with SEDBUK A rating

Hope this helps

That's no reason for changing your boiler.

Has the existing one broken down? If so, can it be repaired and what will it cost?

What's wrong with the existing pump and cylinder?

Does the existing boiler have the spare capacity for your new radiator, about 1kW?

I would think that any boiler that is Twenty Years Old has Served it's time and if a customer has the good sense to consider a system upgrade then this should be aplauded, after all whats the use in upgrading rads and flushing, only to have a cast iron heat exchanger fail a few months later?

20 yr old boiler = borrowed time

I'd agree. Some people on this forum are against any new technology and want to keep old, inefficent and potencially unsafe junk going on forever; god knows why.

I do agree with DM46

I can see where BM2 is coming from :)

Come on now,,,,,,,,,

600 for boiler
60 for TRVs
40 for rad
450 for flush
200 for cylinder (if required)
100 for bits

Gestimate at 3000 to 3500

FEK ME, im on me way darn sarf for a grand a day

Got to be wearing a mask to hide the grin ;)

Who said anything about being against new technology? I have a twenty year old boiler and was told by the surveyor, before I purchased the house a few years ago, that it should be replaced as soon as possible. So far I have had to replace the overrun thermostat (£5). When I had it serviced last year and asked the engineer if I should replace it, he said there was no need to as it still had many years left in it.

When I need to replace it, I will put in the best I can afford with weather compensation and all the other bells and whistles.

Yeah CLF IT WAS A Guesstimate! what would you do on a Blog without going to site to do a proper survey and job specification, if i'd Guesstimated £1,000, you would have been trying to tear my B******S off .. You know i'm right

How much? How long is a piece of string. One thing is for sure, don't use the installer who advised the baxi solo, it is junk. If the cylinder and the pump are dead too, you would probably be better off with a combi.

why is the solo junk explain ??? how many times have you gone to one and what faults have you had.

How many bedrooms, bathrooms, en-suites, and showers does he have, and what's his incoming flow rate?

very funny :D I think you can guess where i was going with that one. could of been 3 pages at least, spoil sport
