ok had gas run to my house earlier this year. central heating all fitted and engineer ran gas pipe to meter box last week, i arrange for the meter to be fitted last friday and engineer planned to come back on saturday to commision the system and clean out etc. i was working friday so my dad stayed at the house as they said they would need access to poperty. anyway the guy came and refused to fit meter saying there was a leak on the pipe. couldn;t he fit the meter and leave it turned off? so when i got home i contacte my engineer who said the pipe work was all tested to the meter position and the leak must have been caused by the meter fitter! anyway saturday he was here, told me he has retested pipe work and no leaks, im didn;t see him redoing any joints. i got to rebook meter fitter now, can they chargeme for this now? and is it possible that it was a leak between the meter and the pipe work going into my property. long winded post i know, thanks.

he could of just fitted the meter then left it capped without even testing the engineers pipework just testing his own work. I wouldnt pay for them to come back but id make sure they send same enginner n have your engineer there too.

If the gas transporter, in other words the supplier has installed a gas line to your property and tested it safe then your gas fitter has installed gas pipes internally and tested them as safe, then a gas meter fitter has come along and says there is a leak, I would probably question the gas meter fitter.Did he say if the leak was on the incoming main or the pipework from the meter internally? He should be able to pinpoint it if he isn`t polish or a six week wonderboy.Might be on flexi or tracpipe between meter and incoming main, might be on ECv shut off valve did he use leak detection fluid when installing meter? sounds suspect.

looks like Legion has tried to use every bit he has read about meters in one reply.
To OP no they wont charge you for revisit but VERY strange he didnt just disc off the outlet and leave meter fitted.
Something doesnt add up

Wasn`t wrong though. no need to thank me.It`s called being qualified to install gas meters.
