Ive given up drinking

Decided to stop on Sunday morning, after having at least four beers every night for the last 7 years. Not sure what happened but my youngest and me had a game. I have to see her grow up.

Other reasons are personal.

So glad I did though. Sunday night and last night were sleepless. Tonight will probably be similar but I am so tired Im hoping it will be different. If its not, I dont care TBH, as I am drink free.

Just had to get it off my chest.

GSM,
Good Luck. You've gone 2 nights and survived, take each night at a time and congratulate yourself the following morning. Buy yourself a treat each week you complete, (NO! NOT a bottle of spirits! )

How you doing on the smoking? I haven't been around much lately so need to do some serious catching up. ;)

You will never be free of the want, but many people still stay off it.

Good on you for the effort.

Had at least eight cans a night for the last twenty plus yrs, smoked since a kid, now 49, smoked cannabus for the last 25 yrs on and off. not overweight, or unfit, high blood pressure, controlled by pills.
I would like to give the lot up, but i know it will be hard.

Congratulations, although I believe they are only giving medals out to people who haven't been drinking for 10 days

Hey gsm, if that's what you want to do mate you go for it. I wish you all the luck in the world.

I've only had the odd beer or glass of wine since me heart started playing funny buggers. I went to a party on Saturday. Wife had a few glasses of wine (she doesn't drink much anyway). I said I'd drive as I'm not allowed to have much. I took some Becks Alcohol Free Lager (only drank one bottle, horrible taste imo). There were a few there that had a few, I wasn't bothered. There was a time when I would have been but now I quite enjoy watching the drunks make a complete fool of themselves! I'm not trying to be righteous or anything I just don't miss it as much as I thought I would.

When I was much younger (not that long ago ;) )
I became quite dependant on the stuff, it can be a terrible thing!
I managed two stop just like that, didn't touch a drop for two years and a few months. Went out with my pals just the same, had almost as much funny (non of them 10 pint, naughty one nighters :) )
There is no morale to this story as I like a drink now just not controlled by it as I once was and can stay dry just like that, not a problem but we are not all the same.
So best of luck to gsm hope all goes well, a strong will is sometimes all that is needed.

If you mean you used to drink too much, then, good luck to you

Funny thing about the sleeping; if you're used to it, you might find it hard to drop off without a drinkl. But heavy drinkers are then liable to wake up in the middle of the night when it wears off.

You just have to train yourself to sleep without it.

Probably getting up in the morning at your regular time, even if you feel like staying in bed, helps retrain your sleeping habilts.

I found it difficult getting off something a while ago. Found you just have to get through it. If you give in, you'll only have to try again.

Used to dink a lot (I mean a lot). Growing up in small town (Coleraine you know it APOD) wasn't much else to do. Had been drinking since I was 16 and my family said if I hadn't met my other half would have been an alcoholic or dead by now. I wouldn't have thought twice about spending £100 on day out, binge drinking every Thurs/Fri/Sat and Sun (sometimes take Mon off work as well) Still take a beer and sometimes a bit too much but usually just a few pints watching the football or with the lads from work

Good luck with yours GSM

I thinking of being teetotal again or cut right down, have done 13 months without a drink!

I can tell you it's difficult at first but goes get better, what really helped me was to join the gym to wear myself out so I was tired in the evening which make me sleep better, if you don't fancy the gym do some brisk walking round the block, exercise will help you to sleep

Good luck!

my post deleted with no reason given then?
you must have friends in high places GSM..
It was nothing nasty, just something truthful, to wich I added the comment 'Tell it like it is' It appears we are opening up old wounds.
