Wiring in LV lighting without using junction boxes

I could go to work and back on a 50cc scooter. It would do the job perfectly well I'm sure, but I dont.

I choose to drive a car with a much bigger engine. Sure it uses more fuel, and it cost more to buy, but it looks better, and I prefer it.
You just don't get it. Both of those are designed to do the same job, i.e. to provide you with personal transportation.

Recessed downlighters are not designed to provide general room illumination, therefore their use for that purpose is wrong.

XR4X4 I hate you, why did you dig up a cold case - waste of everyone's time!

BTW
I could set out to cross the outback in a 1964 Ford Popular or a modern vehicle
You could, but the Windscreen wipers from the old Fords ran off the inlet manifold. This meant the wipers more or less stopped if it rained and you were going up hill

But when they are designed and installed properly, they really do.

I know you don't beleive this, but you are more than welcome to come to my house and see for your self.

I think we often forget forget that the lamp/reflector assembly defines the beam angle, and downlighter lamps are available in beam angles other than the typical 25 degrees - you can buy them in 50 degree versions here, for example.

I'm not saying that downlights are the most economical way to light a room, but as a compromise for the sake of aesthetics, they work. To say that they are not designed to illuminate a room is simply untrue.

Or pulled out to overtake a lorry in the rain...

On the plus side though, when you got to the other side of the hill and lifted off they would go really fast...

Well they certainly saw you coming with respect to selling you on the ludicrous notion that it can be anything other than a blindingly stupid idea to install recessed torches instead of lighting which actually works.
Maybe you think it is not a blindingly stupid idea to install the wrong products for a particular function, and which you know are wrong because you are a lighting shop and therefore an expert.

But I don't.
