BG Strike

The strike's nothing to do with money, it's not fully clear exactly what it's about really. I would say it's more about general working conditions. By that I mean the "performance measuring scheme" for one. There's a constant threat that if an engineer slips below a certain target he's monitored and badgered for up to a year, and if improvements aren't seen it could mean OUT! There's also the constant badgering to sell various products.

So i'm told!

Sounds like a bit of a reality check for the BG employees, perhaps they'll take away their polo shirts??

Polo shirts?!. The service techs used to be smartly turned out too.

I'd go on strike if I was asked to wear a half polyester half potato sack uniform.

How come BG engineers have such a bad name amongst independants?

I can honestly say the only problem i have with BG is their (not their engineers) insesint push on the vunrable and scared with how they need new boilers, and the terms they use towards these people without ever explaining why they need such items.
I went to a job recently where a Cast Classic only needed a new thermo couple yet the old lady was told she needed a new boiler (swapped to a combi) at just shy of £6000.
The old dear was terrified but thank god her son called us to have a quick look first.
I also went to another job where i went to fit a fire (again another classic), had to turn the gas off due to no iso tap, relight boiler all ok, gets call from customer next day stating boiler had to be swapped as knackered (BG had been out on a home care service/safety thing), went back to find the little brittle electrics cover smashed to bits (not saying anything untowards went on), told customer all was fine day before and highly doubted this happened on its own over night unless she hit it with a full suitcase, they funnily found the discontinued part the next day when she explained the fire fit etc.

i cant see what the problem is if they come from taxi drivers etc?????soebodys got to come from somewhere??whether its school leaver or from somwhere else, like said before u fit ideal boilers, enuff said :D

and no contractor has ever gone to and elderley person and took advantage!!dont talk out yer back side, ive been at bg and work on own,ive seen both worlds and it happens everywhere not just at bg

Can't say I have ever had much to do with B.G , was asked to sub for them years ago installing , bloke came around to speak to me , told me about some install work they wanted doing , allowed 3 day's for it , I said well i will do it for same money but take 5 day's , did'nt seem to impressed , never heard from him again . I am of the opinion that alot of the b.g service guy's are doing a difficult job under difficult circumstances , time's aloted for certain job's ect ect , I expect if something go's wrong , safety wise b.g would not back up or stand by there bloke's ?????

Ideals are good boilers, just carn't cope with crap in the system. so if your a crap installer and carn't even flush a system then stick with your more durable boilers, But like i said ideals work well if fitted correctly.

I know you lot dont like to here that, but tuff.

Many BG engineers are confused about the reasons behind the strike. The guys who have been around a while will stick together and strike but I think many of the younger guys will not bother.

The bullying management tactics that the union talk of are simply because the management skills within BG are very poor, we have a regional bod who shouts and stamps his feet a lot. Guess what..... he used to be an engineer, zero man-management skills. Nobody leads they all just fight fires. As for the SM's they don't have a clue.

This isn't the first time we have had performance targets but it is the first time they have been heavy about hitting them. But many are not hitting the targets because they are lazy and want to finish early.

I am expected to strike because of the poor management of lazy engineers. Personally I think the poor managers are at fault.

Probably will strike though!!!!!????

come on..........  ideal make good boilers.ill give u the c80ff and classic and thats it.everything else is a nail.RESPONSE=SCRAPHEAP  mini...icos's isars.even better one..........the classic combi  i wouldnt work on it if u paid me 60 squid an hour.to be fair im just avin a laff but i think u know deep down that all ideals when collected from plumb centre need to go to scrap heap

Be quite honest if they are so suseptable to crap in systems than they are only suitable for new build not replacements , or they should be fitted on plate exc's , never had much to do with Ideal's , logic seem's a nice boiler , but time will tell ???
