Most reliable condensing boiler?

Surprisingly Biasi at present, have one of the lowest warranty failure rates in the industry.

They are just kits. They must screw them together properly. In other words have god QA at the factory.

Ravenheat made kits of decent quality components, yet never screwed them together right and ended up with dogs.

Yes, back to the OP!

The advent of condensing boiler has led to the adoption of some new descriptions although they are somewhat arbitrary!

There are two basic boilers from the point of view of their application.

Combi boilers and heat only.

Boilers are either "standard" ( efficiency) or condensing!

All combi boiler are complete units with a pump, pressure gauge and expansion vessel ( apart from those very few which are suited for an Open Vented system.)

The cheapest is a basic heat only boiler with no pump, pressure gauge or expansion vessel. They are mostly suitable for sealed or open vented use.

Then there is a more expensive heat only boiler with most of the bits inside, pump, pressure gauge and expansion vessel, these are called "system boilers",

Does this answer your query?

Thanks Tony - very helpful. :)

I had a Buderus condensing wall mounted boiler fitted in May 2008. Within 2 weeks the main board had been replaced, a year later the fan was replaced. October 2010, fault code 9a displayed, new board again, this time no warranty and a bill of over £200.00. I suspect a problem outside of the boiler but why has it worked OK for 2 years? This time I will insist on proper fault finding around the system (expansion tank/hot water tank/pump/stats/controller and 2 motorised valves.

There are many makes of reliable boiler. Unfortunalty for the customer they are all reliable at having a failing component or two.
And generaly the more modern the boiler the more expensive those components are.

We all have our favourites, mine would be Vaillant, Viessmann, Buderus, Worcester, Broag, and Kidd.
But only Kidd oil fired boilers meet the minimum efficiency requirement of 88% under the new SAP2009. Kidd gas fired boilers can only be installed if the "exceptions" criteria are met.

There is no need for all this cynicism, and I am sorry to see poor advice being given.

Most boilers have stainless steel heat exchangers now, and the better boilers have pre-mix burners with a single heat exchanger, rather than the cobbled-on secondary ones on some makes.

Further, it is not true that extended warranties infer poor quality - quite the opposite, in fact.

There are good makes mentioned in the thread - just choose a good one with weather compensation, and give yourself some real savings.

Surprisingly Biasi at present, have one of the lowest warranty failure rates in the industry.

But they hardly sell any boilers and even then they're one of the worst after sales companys around.

Ideal also had a low warranty failure

Yep agree with Rob , Biasi have one of the worst after sales around , there a complete shower to put it mildly ,( there budget boilers are 'nt bad though well up to the 2008 models any way )

Buderas no longer do domestic boilers, not due to being unreliable but to being in direct competion with Worcester there parent company.

The Buderas commercial boilers are excellent :)

This is my opinion only!

I fit 90% Worcester Bosch because of the following reasons:
1) Very good to fit
2) Pleasing on the eye
3) Extremely reliable! ( I have suffered less than 1% failure rate during warranty period and I fit two a week on average)
4) excellent controls
5) Excellent after service care
6) quality performance does what it says on the can
7) excellent range for all occasions, - wall mounted, floor mounted etc

I also rate vaillant and veissman but not as much as WB
