Am I missing something...dont these drinkers pay the tax on the drink, dont they keep people employed.
They are having fun..They dont all get rat arsed.
I want to move to the country, all the pubs are shuting. maybe take the drinkers in a coach to the village pubs.

On another note..My car insurance is high..thats all these young drivers...probably the same binge drinkers..

;)

Crash for cash is putting your insurance up.

heavy drinkers certainly keep me in a job!....many of my caseload are classed as dual diagnosis .. mental health problems and substance misuse

btw.... a "binge" is classified as 8 or more units in one go....so that could easily be only 3 pints of decent lager ...

Simple answer is bring back licensing hours. Binge drinking started when Tony Blair allowed 24hr drinking.

Or a can of Carlsberg special and three whiskies - which I've drunk on the odd occasion. Now there's a sobering thought.   I like to think I don't drink too much but the truth is that, like most people, I'm drinking rather more than I'm aware of.

Actually it didn't. Back in my student days (seventies) I saw plenty of people drink until they could hardly stand up. I also saw many examples of people buying more beer than they really wanted then gulping it down fast before the bell sounded and the barmaid shouted "SEE YER DRINKS OFF PLEASE".

The licensing laws were introduced as an emergency measure during the first world war to reduce drunkenness among munitions workers. It was a laudable aim at the time but it somehow took a multitude of governments about 80 years to notice that the war was over.   It was one of those issues on which neither major party could score any political points over the other so they just couldn't be bothered.

I disagree, on both counts.

The extended hours ruling was in order to alleviate the problem of binge drinking.
It stopped the rushing to get a few more in before the dreaded bell.

If licensing hours are brought back, the kids will just start earlier. The hours are not the problem in my opinion.

on a serious note.......(i can be serious some times :D )

as long as you arent having lager for breakfast...just to get you started.....and have two "dry days" a week... you'll be fine...

the units thing is so vague anyway.....it doesnt take into account someones size etc..... im tiny and get wasted on 3 units of alcohol.....whereas that wouldnt touch the sides in most people....

I drink so little alcohol these days that half a small glass of wine gets me wasted...seriously!

And I'm over 6' and 19 stone.

Not for a while yet ;)

Glass of good wine and a pint is not far short of ten quid!

yep............had a drink in Canary Wharf....just the one!!!....prices where ridiculous!!....and the seats where so high i needed a leg up to sit down!!!...
