Had a few pair of shoes in the past but, no ones getting rid of things the same today.

its a shame really as the vast majority will think 90 % goes to the front line
where as i think it is greater than 85% collected is sold off as rags
charities are no longer charities working on a shoe string they are buisinesses where anything goes as long as its the best returns
so they pay chuggers and give people high wages to tell them how to get the best returns so your assumption of 80 or 90% going directly to good causes can be as little as 10 or 15% off your contribution in clothes or money reaching the point off delivery

my mum works as a volunteer in a hospice, and they are forever asking the volunteers t work extra shifts, but they have 2 financial directors who get £72k each, they quote ALL profit goes into the hospice from money raised which is true but thats after expenses and wages for everyone, its big business now

They are confidence tricksters, plain and simple. That's why I never give to charity.

Yep, even Jimmy Saville took a percentage of the money he raised.

He also got kicked out of his complimentary room in the Stoke Mandeville Nurses home as he was bringing back the wrong sort of person for the night.

But he was raising large amounts of cash so it wasn't taken any further.

Urrggh...Now then , now then .

Charity - the only part of society where "the end justifies the means".

In the real world if you shoot a burglar to prevent a burglary.... you have prevented a crime, but the means to do so were not justified ie killing him.

In the charity world, it is ok to deceive, ok to pay directors huge salaries, as long as the end result is more money for the charity in the end. ie it is acceptable to take 99p per pound for your wages, if you are donating a large net value to the cause.

It's about time something was done about it......some sort of ratio or restriction on how much cash the people working for the charity can receive. And its about time the general public changed their perception of 'giving to charity' as something good.

What do you mean by the "wrong sort of person"?he didn't look like he was that way.

Government shouldn't have any say in charity (and that includes not giving them money as they do).

Don't like that a charity pays it's top bods £££££££, don't give them your £.

Pretty much any big charity becomes bent.

Once they get to a certain size, and have a large enough pot of money, they realistically have to get professional managers and bean counters in. It's nothing to do with greed, you just can't expect part timers and do-gooders to be managing hundreds of £ or millions.

And of course once you get the bean counters and managers in, they are the ones that start the rot, and before you know it you have "CEO's" and "executive managers" pulling in big £, and the charity starts getting run like a profit making company.

in my humble opinion many a "rich person" look upon "charities" as a way to offset tax
a way to minimise tax for there own benefit with the charity being irrelivent other than being a vehicle to save them money

untill we get genuine people who don't care about there own greed or interest most charities will just be a tax reduction vehicle for many better off people

In a civilised society charity shouldn't be required. Causes should come from a fund by UK Gov Corp.

As long as people give to charity for cancer scanners, medical equipment and ( add in any charity cause) the Govenment is being let of its responsibility to the population.

It is sinfull that we allow them to duck their responsibilities, and abhorrent that such organisations have a tier that then blows funds received on internal costs and large salaries for the top table.

Sally Army? 98% of donations used internally!
