I don't think its the star of Bethlehem, is it a planet or star?

Its SSE of Bristol, its the distance of outstretched thumb and pinky behind the cresent of the moon...

It's not that bloody police helicopter again? Known as the 'Star Of The South(mead)' round these 'ere parts.

The number of times we've been woken up by this thing.

Venus. Often visible in the dark blue dusk sky and often near the crescent moon. The 'Moon and Sixpence' comes from Venus sitting near or within in the crescent.

It's the sun. Yes, I know. You'd forgotten about that.

Lets just hope it doesn't drop in on you...

It is almost certainly the planet Venus you can see close to the crescent moon in the Western sky. According to SkyMap, one of the many astronomical programs available on the internet, the Moon and Venus have been (visually) pretty close together for the past two or three days, and will continue to be so for the next couple of days. This is at around 17:00 to 18:00 hours in the south-western to western sky.

This pure guess, Its Jupiter as venus is much much brighter! I have been very busy and its cold and dull so have not seen the skies lately with my telescope, but i know from past experience that is jupiter often Saturn can be as bright as that depending its orbit location when very close to earth.

I had a free one but, I'm sure there are many paid for ones too. I can't remember the name of the one I had.

If this bright "star" was close to the crescent moon in the evening sky, then it was certainly Venus. Jupiter, at the moment is not visible at evening twilight, IIRC it rises about 21:00, and the crescent moon rises while the sun is still in the sky, so moonrise is not visible.
