Spell it out...

Maybe plod should stand outside the BBC hq and ask the staff entering if their work is essential and cannot be done from home?
It is disappointing that some officers are over stepping. Unfortunately, they have an attitude which is more common than it should be, that the law applies less to them. My neighbour for example is a Sergeant and his daughter's boyfriend turned up in his car yesterday for a visit.

Don't care, but he's first in line to enforce others transgressions and often with limited legal knowledge

I'm not sure even the bobbies on the beat know were to draw the line. This is all very new and evolving. There will be a post-mortem and we will inevitably have critical things to say, as we mourn our dead.

Transam will. Not have his civil / Human rights trampled on
You are a bit of an oddball...Talk of lack of common sense, yet you have not enough to use grammar correctly, and talk about yourself in the third person...

However, it seems plod has time to inspect people's gardens, parks and play with their drones on the Peak District.
They don't help themselves do they? Yet we are supposed to do what they say.
Coppers looking for potential law breakers......How ridiculous.

It can only work if people see the Why.
Look at all the laws people ignore, its because they don't see the "why". traffic law, building control etc.

Police officers have the law dumbed down for them in to procedures, which get updates based on case law. plus.. while most of them are decent people, there are definitely a few judge Dredds

They have laws to enforce and as usual interpretation matters. This what the gov says from their website

1. When am I allowed to leave the house?
You should only leave the house for very limited purposes:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
  • travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home
And this before those
Stay at home
  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
  • If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home
The police don't make the rules and personally if one told somebody to not let their kids play in a front garden I'd want more info. Kids need to meet the 2m rule as well. Some parents do not keep any eye at all on what their kids are up to. The rest really is down to the rules - shopping for basic necessities. A drone saves time checking large areas - much cheaper than using their helicopters and needs less people.

LOL 2m is more like 6ft6. A lady on the TV said last night that distance is ok but only for 15min. Confusion rules and poor old plod has to work with it.

better to read the actual legislation:
#1

Unfortunately ill informed officers are going on the powers in the Corona Virus Act 2020 which relate to their emergency powers to deal with people who have or are suspected of having the Covid-19. Not sec 6 of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020, which apply to general population.

I think there are 2 things here:

the difficulty with imposing a lockdown is that people cant understand the argument why they can go out for a walk whenever they like because 'the street/field/park is deserted' -thats a hard argument to win because it is about a collective effort: if a person living in a remote area stays in because he is observing the rules, maybe a person in a crowded town might stay in too.

If a rule doesnt seem to apply to all of us, it becomes a rule that applies to nobody.

secondly, the police must act with common sense and use diplomacy, because if they put peoples backs up, it will make things worse

Yes, was woman on the radio said she had heard that she could exercise outside for thirty minutes but how could she as it took longer than that to get to the park and back.
that is fair enough comment, may be she wants to run but paths local to where she lives are so crowded she can't, and needs to walk to somewhere quieter. and how will plod cope with the fact she did some walking then some running, then walked home again? only allowed one type of exercise per day. She should be allowed to drive to a suitable quiet place to run, far less risky to everyone than having to endure busy paths.

This "Stay Home" mantra is wrong, keeping safe is all to do with social distancing and nothing to do with being miserably locked down in your own house.

Keep your Distance, Protect the NHS, Save Lives

"....to obtain basic necessities, including food and medical supplies for those in the same household (including any pets or animals in the household) or for vulnerable persons and supplies for the essential upkeep, maintenance and functioning of the household, or the household of a vulnerable person, or to obtain money, including from any business listed in Part 3 of Schedule 2;...."
Food. It does not specify what food.

So, pompous, over-zealous cops fining people for buying a bottle of wine or some snacks are going WAY over the top and will alienate members of public even more.

We are not in some communist country with a police state.
Memo to all police: Try enforcing the actual law. Oh, sorry, you often struggle to do that with legislation that has been around years; of course you are going to struggle with new legislation...
