the UK cant get more independence unless it also chooses isolation, a la North Korea.
the reality is the UK will trade with the worlds economic superpowers; USA, EU, China as a weak partner =loss of independence.

How much can we do without China? What do they make that is essential? There is very little in my house that is Chinese, at least not modern Chinese. The only modern Chinese stuff I own are the electronics in my phone, computer and, possibly TV. And Firestick - that's probably my only concession to the modern world. I understand that Chinese goods are vital in a lot of supply chains but, with determination, that can be changed. This is not a criticism of the ordinary Chinese person, and I'll still go to my fabulous local Chinese chippy, when it reopens. Boycott Chinese goods everyone.

Why though? What will it benefit? Don't forget, British companies buying cheap products and selling them on is great for our economy. Much better to sell the end product that be the manufacturer. I guess we could all manufacture in Turkey, Iran and Brazil. But will that really be better for us, or the world?

Agree I had a moment of using deal extreme for a while but soon got fed up with the fact every chinese product ok most of it is sh.t quality their '20,000' mah lithium cells their 10000 lumens torches components and anything instrumental stuff crap for accuracy and reliability all highlight the fact they have no manufacturing standards. I quickly went back to American European or uk manufacturing. I certainly avoid anything Chinese now as the saying goes, buy cheap buy twice. Nothing of quality or age I own is chinese
Difficult to avoid buying Chinese made stuff.
It would surprise most of us if we checked where everything we buy is made or assembled. Chinese made mostly, despite what the company brand name is.
My objection to the theory that getting things made in China cheap and selling them here in U.K. for profit is good for our economy - the reality of the “profit” is it only benefits a small number of people.
To have a factory in U.K. producing a product will tend to have secondary employment of workers not belonging to the factory, whether that be local material suppliers, delivery drivers, tradespeople, cleaners, food providers, etc.
Also means the factory workers tend to spend their hard earned cash in local shops and businesses.
But give China the manufacturing job and we get none of the above in U.K.
I do not always wish to buy cheap, but willing to pay a reasonable cost for a quality product of preferably British origin.
