Is it coincidental, or something more conspiratorial, that the government has published the science on the subject of the schools returning? Yet they refuse to publish the science on any other matter to do with Covid19.

Children are returning to school all over Europe, why shouldn't ours? the only conspiracy I see is by the teaching unions. Get the shirkers back to work.

Europe reacted quicker and can return quicker.

All the unions in the UK want is the same protections for pupils/employees.

Watering down of worker/human rights is of course what quitters voted for, so no surprise that quitters blame anyone but themselves!

MOD: A bit better worded.

Given school limited opening time date and the start of the summer holidays in some ways it's a safe if lab rat type approach.Any effects will be noticed and have time to die down. Only "interesting" aspect is the need to watch for child to parent and teacher transmission. It's also arranged to limit spread into small groups and nothing remotely like normal schooling. It isn't in Denmark either.

Also announcement quick and easy as usual - implementation taking longer just like most things.

Of use to decide to fully open schools ?????????????? Wonder why universities have decided to work an entirely different way.

I'm not sure if I'll send my girls back if the call comes...
I'll see how the water looks.

Still I wonder if the teachers reluctantance to go back would be any different if they worked on a self employed basis...

Ours are older but I wouldn't have any problems sending them back if the protections in the UK were the same as in place in Europe.

It amazes me that we still have a 'our approach is best' attitude when all the evidence says otherwise!

It also rather gives a lie to the claim that the EU controls all aspects of our lives!

Are you suggesting that their objections are simply due to their worker rights protections?

Do you wish these rights to be removed in order that they would in future simply have to obey government decrees?

No not at all. But if they were struggling like alot of the self employed and needed to earn money. Would they object to going back

£2.5k a month is more than most teachers/teachers assistants earn, so given that is what is on offer at the moment for the self employed what exactly is your point?

Because schools are full of children, and universities aren't?

LOL Of course never thought of that. That must be the reason.

I thought it was to allow them to still teach and maintain social distancing. Obviously incorrect you being so knowledgeable on the subject.

I do know that there are very few children at university.

They would only get 80%. So if that's more than what they would earn then they would not get £2500 would they...

Some self employed will not get anything. I've still not had mine yet.

All self employed will get 3 months worth (up to £2.5 pm) based on the average monthly earnings over three years to April 2019.
(and are still free to carry on earning)

Have you applied properly, because it is being paid very quickly.

The ones that will lose out are those that run a limited company and pay themselves dividends in return for a lower tax rate.

What comes around goes around!

But think of the amount they would be saving in day to day work expenses!
