Soffit lighting with Philips Hue GU10

Hi all,

Looking at buying soffit downlights for my new workshop (work in progress) and would like them to use the Philips Hue GU10 bulbs - think I'll only need two (or three?), soffit is 2.5 meters.

These are the Downlight and here are the Bulbs

I would like to know if the bulbs would be safe to use in this fitting mainly because it's going to be outside in the cold and damp.

I wouldn't think either is suitable for such a location but I suppose it depends how long you think they should last.

What a ridiculous price for the bulbs; they are considerably cheaper elsewhere, although still expensive.

Why wouldn't the downlight fittings be suitable?
They're described as galvanised soffit lights, guaranteed for 15 years.

Not a soffit, no through passage of air, will be a very damp area.

Well it appears, the op Dave Grant is using his 'intuition' and wrapping the unit in breathable felt, so maybe the damp won't be too much of an issue.

As this workshop appears to be made from a steel container, it would be interesting to know what supply arrangements and earthing system will be used for it.

@chivers67 I would rather it be "Mood Type" or the philips hue gu10 white ambiance as I already have Hue lighting - therefore I can turn on from inside via voice.

Hang on, does anyone else make GU10 bulbs that work with Hue?

Also I'm trying to find main lighting for workshop the works with Hue or a ZigBee rated light switch

Okay peeps technically this is not a soffit but for the purpose of this build/design I've called it a soffit and soffit lighting will be installed.

The roof will be a warm roof, OSB3 board on top and filled with insulation - the OSB3 board will go over the over-hang, It will then have EPDM fitted the whole length - fascia boards will be Siberian Larch.

So the Over-Hang is what I'm asking about, you know how the top will be covered and the bottom part will have Siberian Larch - so the gap will be empty.

Your thoughts peeps?
